Delayed diagnosis can lead to irreversible muscle and nerve damage, loss of limb function and other serious consequences, yet clinical decisions still depend heavily on repeated examination and intermittent compartment-pressure measurements.
This case-based AAOS webinar examines whether continuous bedside perfusion monitoring can provide more objective information during the assessment of patients at risk of acute compartment syndrome. The faculty will discuss the limitations and subjectivity of clinical examination, the evolving pathophysiology of compartment syndrome and the importance of recognising it as a dynamic process rather than a single diagnostic moment.
Participants can expect practical discussion of how continuous, real-time monitoring may be used alongside clinical findings to follow changes in tissue perfusion and support diagnostic and treatment decisions. The session will consider whether additional monitoring data could help clinicians recognise deterioration earlier, identify patients requiring urgent fasciotomy and avoid prophylactic surgery when the available evidence does not support intervention.
The webinar is led by Samir Mehta, with faculty members Carol Lin, Edward Harvey and James Blair. It is intended for orthopaedic and trauma surgeons, emergency and acute-care clinicians, residents and other professionals involved in the assessment of fractures, high-energy limb injuries and suspected compartment syndrome. The case-based format places the emphasis on clinical interpretation and decision-making rather than technology alone.
The event is presented by AAOS in partnership with MY01, a company developing continuous perfusion-sensing technology for compartment syndrome management.
