CourseThe AO Trauma Masters Course: Treatment Strategies for Pelvic and Acetabular Fractures takes place from 9 to 11 September 2026 in Graz, Austria. This advanced three-day course is designed for experienced orthopaedic and trauma surgeons treating pelvic ring injuries and acetabular fractures, combining clinical decision-making with practical surgical training using human anatomical specimens.
The course follows the management of pelvic and acetabular trauma from initial assessment through definitive reconstruction. Teaching addresses the evaluation and classification of pelvic ring and acetabular injuries, emergency stabilisation, treatment planning, reduction and fixation, selection of surgical approaches, postoperative management and the prevention and treatment of complications. Complex injuries and salvage situations form an important part of the Masters-level curriculum.
Practical training allows participants to work through techniques used in pelvic and acetabular fracture surgery. The AO curriculum includes external fixation of the pelvic ring, reduction and plating of symphyseal disruption, treatment of sacroiliac joint injuries and sacral fractures, fixation of complex acetabular fractures and detailed surgical approaches to the pelvis and acetabulum. Anatomical specimen teaching provides the opportunity to examine surgical exposure and fixation strategies directly rather than considering them only in lectures.
Small-group case discussions complement the practical sessions, with particular attention to difficult pelvic and acetabular fractures, complications and treatment choices where several operative strategies may be possible. The course is intended for surgeons who already have experience with these injuries and want to develop their approach to complex pelvic trauma, acetabular fracture management and reconstruction.
Organised by AO Trauma, the Graz Masters Course provides focused advanced education in one of the technically demanding areas of orthopaedic trauma surgery and is accredited for 20.5 European CME credits.
