The AO Trauma Course on Polytrauma is an advanced surgical training course focused on the operative management of patients with multiple severe injuries. Organised by AO Trauma, the course combines structured teaching with hands-on training using human anatomical specimens.
The programme addresses key principles in polytrauma care, including prioritisation of injuries, sequencing of surgical interventions, stabilisation strategies and definitive fixation in complex trauma scenarios. Emphasis is placed on anatomical understanding, intraoperative decision-making and coordination of surgical strategy across multiple injury regions.
This course is intended for experienced orthopaedic and trauma surgeons who are regularly involved in the management of polytrauma patients and wish to refine advanced surgical techniques, improve decision-making under complex conditions and consolidate a systematic approach to polytrauma care. It is not designed for early trainees or introductory-level participants.
