Society For Biomaterials 2027 Annual Meeting & Exposition

27.04.2027 – 30.04.2027
Seattle, Washington, USA

The Society For Biomaterials 2027 Annual Meeting & Exposition will take place from 28 April to 1 May 2027 at the Seattle Convention Center in Seattle, Washington. Under the theme “Innovation Reigns: Advancing the Future of Biomaterials,” the meeting will bring together scientists, engineers, clinicians, medical-device developers, industry specialists, regulators and early-career researchers working across biomaterials science and its clinical applications.

The scientific programme is being developed around emerging biomaterials research, translational science, medical devices, industry needs, regulatory considerations and commercialisation. Participants can expect scientific sessions, specialist symposia, workshops, panel discussions, student and early-career activities, and an exposition connecting academic research with technologies and products under development. Interdisciplinary collaboration will be a central part of the programme, including contributions developed across the Society’s specialist communities and with industry partners.

For the orthopaedic and musculoskeletal community, the meeting offers a valuable opportunity to explore how material design affects bone repair, implant performance, tissue integration and the biological response to medical devices. The Society has a dedicated Orthopaedic Biomaterials Special Interest Group focused on new technologies and material advances in orthopaedic surgery. Related areas within the wider SFB community include tissue engineering, biomaterial–tissue interactions, controlled drug delivery and regenerative medicine.

Topics of particular interest may include bioactive and biodegradable materials, bone-regeneration scaffolds, orthopaedic implants, additive manufacturing, material degradation, infection-resistant biomaterials and strategies for local therapeutic delivery. Previous SFB programming has connected orthopaedic biomaterials with calcium-phosphate materials, bioabsorbable metals, implant manufacturing, bone regeneration and resistance to infection, illustrating the breadth of research represented within the society.

The meeting looks beyond whether a biomaterial performs successfully in the laboratory. Its translational focus also addresses the route from scientific discovery to a safe and clinically usable medical product, including manufacturing, regulation, commercial development and collaboration between researchers, clinicians and industry. This makes the conference relevant to professionals working on orthopaedic implants, bone substitutes, drug-delivery systems, tissue-engineered products and other technologies intended to improve tissue repair and patient care.

The conference programme and organiser information are presented in English. The SFB Annual Meeting therefore provides an accessible international setting for presenting biomaterials research, examining new medical technologies and meeting specialists from academic, clinical, governmental and commercial organisations.
